It's Diwali Time again! Sophia had a party at school today and it was Traditional Indian Dress. She wore her Cinderella Pavarthi. The boarder on the skirt, shirt and inset have different pictures of the Cinderella story woven in with gold thread. She loves wearing this. She also wanted to make sure I put a bindi on her before we left. She was especially excited that it would just be her and her classmates - just a "little children's party - No parents".
Diwali is the festival of lights and the triumph of good over evil. The site can explain it better that I can. Diwali also involves bursting of crackers (shooting off fireworks). Here's our stash:
On the right there are 9 boxes of sparklers, on the right you have long matches some small cannon bursts and fountains. The large box on the bottom and the ones on top of it are ones that you generally need a license to fire off in the states - here you just buy what you want! If you were to get these in the US, I wouldn't have any idea what you would spend. What I do know is we got all of this for about US$100. Not bad for an evening of playing with fire! Now we just have to wait for a dry night to fire them off! Happy Diwali everyone!
